You'll hear a man talking to a vet about his dog. For question 24—30, decide which of the choices (A, B or C) is the correct answer.
Vet: Hello Mr. Davis. And this must be the new addition to the family, Bob.
Mr. Davis: That's right, He's going to be a real handful. He is four months, and already he's started to destroy the whole house... chewing table legs, chairs, everything! I think we're going to keep him outside in the garden from now.
Vet: Yes, he's growing fast. Any idea about his background?
Mr. Davis: He's a bit of a mix really. His mother's a setter, but we're not too sure about the father.
Vet: He looks healthy enough. Nice, shiny coat, bright eyes, cold, wet nose. He doesn't need to be frightened of these little shots; he probably won't even feel them. ^ Boy, don't worry, it'll all be over in a minute.
Vet: That's all. And he didn't even struggle. We get some dogs in here who nearly wreck the place trying to get out. They're worse than some people going to the dentist's. The injections should protect him for a couple of years. Just bring him when he's about two years old for his booster shots. By the way, do you know how to look after him?
^ I feed him twice a day, canned dog food with some dog biscuits. And I walk him twice a day, before and after work.
Vet: Yes, right. Don't give him uncooked meat, as it can give diseases. And you should be careful with his long coat. That fur is a real problem in summer, both for you and for Bob. He can get fleas and ticks living in there and it could get pretty uncomfortable for him.
^ So what should I do?
Vet: You can give him a good bath every month or so. Put a flea collar on him to keep the fleas away in the summer but if that isn't enough, try spraying him. One of those special sprays from a pet shop should do. You can always get his coat trimmed in the summer, which will mean he doesn't get so hot in the warm weather.
^ Can humans get bitten by these fleas?
Vet: Yes, of course, but you shouldn't worry. Don't let Bob sleep in the bedroom with you, as that really isn't very healthy. And in autumn and spring he'll probably lose quite a bit of fur. Just brush him down regularly...
